Prepare to Adopt
-
RESEARCH the care and needs of any species you are wanting to adopt prior to enquiring about their status. There are many good on-line websites full of information. We have included links to a number of good informational sites on our Resources page.
-
PREVIEW an available pet on our Available Animals page. Some animals may be in the process of being entered into our system or have been requested for a meet and greet with another potential adopter. We have many wonderful animals!! Click this link to complete adoption application. An adoption counselor will get back to you within 48hours. If you have not heard back within 48 hours, please check your spam folder and text messages. You may contact us at adoptions@weecompanions.org or 619-748-2555.
-
SCREENING. An adoption counselor may chat with you directly prior to offering you an adoption appointment Each animal up for adoption has received behavioral and health assessments in order to help determine it's best type of home. Our goal is to make the best match possible between animal and adopter. If you are looking for a companion for an animal that you already have (a bonding), please let us know that and bring the animal with you to the adoption appointment so that we can check them over and supervise that first meeting.
- ADOPTION. An hour long appointment will be set aside to meet our animals, review care and nutrition and answer any other questions. Once you've found a great match we will share information about our services and supplies needed to complete the adoption. We prefer that all members of the household are present during the adoption process if possible. We do not "hold" animals, it is a first come first served process.
- At the time of adoption, you will be asked to sign a contract stipulating:
- You will not breed the animal.
-
The animal will receive veterinary care.
-
The animal will be treated humanely.
-
If you are unable to care for the animal for any reason, it is to be RETURNED to Wee Companions.
-
The Adoption Contract is a binding legal document; you must be 18 years or older to sign.
-
An adoption donation will be requested at time of adoption.
- Bring a designated animal carrier with you to safely transport your new family member home.
We reserve the right to deny adoption to anyone.
Wee Companions is not a public shelter, appointments are required for individual adoptions.
