Magnolia is one of Wee Companions’ female sanctuary guinea pigs. She has a neurological problem that causes her to lean her head to one side, bob her head when she is excited, or when she greets people. She also will circle in one direction very rapidly. This symptom is what caused her to injure her leg so severely that she can only use it to try to balance. She began to circle and caught her leg in cage wiring, and twisted it multiple times.
When Magnolia’s sanctuary mother first met her at the rescue she fell in love with Magnolia. Special care is required because she sometimes gets out of balance and she periodically circles when no one is there to stop her, which aggravates her leg wound and causes it to be open most of the time. The wound needs to be cleaned and an antibiotic applied every day. Magnolia loves people and is happy to see anyone, be held, talked to, fed, or have her nose rubbed. She will let you rub her nose forever if you have time. Magnolia is very sociable with people, but she does not care to live with any other guinea pigs. |
